Roasted Garam Masala Sweet Potatoes

How do you feel about recipe card? I did a couple of recipes using it because I see a lot of bloggers using it,  but I just didn’t like the look. I changed the format up a little and am going to use it for this recipe. We’ll see how it goes. Let me know how you like the look.

The weeks are draggggggging for me lately. I just want winter to be OVER. On the plus side, I’ve been able to photograph a couple of recipes this week because of daylights savings time. I suck at food photography, but if I at least have light the pictures come out “fine” instead of “embarrassing”.

Garam masala is an Indian spice that typically contains some sort of mixture of cinnamon, cardamom, coriander, mace, cumin and nutmeg- although it may vary from mixture to mixture. I love putting an Indian flair on dishes that would otherwise be boring. I found the spice a while back at a specialty organic food store and haven’t used it much. Since I just received a giant jar of coconut oil from Vitacost yesterday (I swear it’s like Santa coming) I decided to roast up sweet potatoes and thought the garam masala might be a nice pairing and a different choice than my usual salt, pepper and garlic powder.



 I am trying a new protein powder. I’m not a huge fan of them, but they’re handy to have around sometimes. I’ll update you after I have some!












I also want to shove my face into a jar of this and eat the whole thing. But my face is too big.











Anyways, back to the story at hand- I decided to use the spice to roast up some sweet potatoes. If you need a garam masala recipe- here’s one to make your own!

Garam Masala Roasted Sweet Potatoes

Sweet and spicy roasted sweet potatoes!

  1. 2 large sweet potatoes, cleaned and diced (peeled if desired)
  2. 1 tablespoon coconut oil, melted (or ghee)
  3. 2 teaspoons garam masala
  1. Pre heat the oven to 400
  2. Prep your sweet potato and peel if desired (I like the skin!) and place on a baking sheet
  3. Sprinkle the spices on the potatoes and pour the melted oil over them
  4. Mix to coat and place in the oven
  5. Cook for 20-25 mins and then mix the potatoes around and cook for another 20-25 mins

Anyway- THANK GOD IT’S FRIDAY!!!! Hope everyone has some fun stuff planned for this “holiday” weekend. I’m pretty depressed I won’t be joining my family at the St. Patrick’s Day parade in Syracuse like last year….so I’ll have to make up for it.
